After being recalled into the ODI and T20 squads for the upcoming South Africa series, Australian fast bowler Shaun Tait is now eyeing a comeback into the Test squad.Tait said that if his body holds up well and he continues to take wickets consistently he was ready for the big league. "I think my body's the main factor for me," Tait, 25, said yesterday after learning of his selection in the national squads. "It feels pretty good at the moment. "If I can maintain it and bowl well then (Test selection is) not out of the question."
South Australia Redbacks physio Jon Porter has assured his national team colleague Alex Kountouris that Tait has recovered from hamstring tendonitis and a slight tear sustained before Christmas. Porter also said that Tait's mental condition was also fantastic. "I think he's happy to be back in Australian colours. That's where he really wants to be," Porter said. Tait admitted he was surprised to be called up after his domestic side South Australia used him carefully.
"I'm pretty chuffed at the moment," Tait said. "I got the call last night from (Cricket Australia's) Michael Brown. "I saw his number come up on the phone so I took the call. I don't usually take too many calls but I took that one."
Tait spent his time away from cricket usually fishing or hanging out with his mates and taking even fewer calls than usual.Despite his break from the game, he was rewarded with a Cricket Australia contract and vowed to come back. He has spearhead South Australia's attack and has taken 13 wickets at 40.76 in four Sheffield Shield games and 12 wickets at 21.58 in six one-dayers.
